WW1 Veteran, Harry Patch dies aged 111

The last British survivor of the World War I trenches, Harry Patch, has died at the age of 111.

I had the honour of meeting Harry and listening to him speak of his experiences at Passchendaele. Born in Combe Down, Bath, Harry fought on the Western Front in 1917. During WW2 he served with the AFS and experienced the Bath Blitz in 1942.

Harry died in Wells on 25 July 2008, the last of Britain's fighting Tommy's.

Oldest WW1 veteran dies

Henry Allingham, the world's oldest man and one of the last surviving World War I veterans, has died at the age of 113.

Mr Allingham served with the Royal Naval Air Service in WWI, later transferring to the Royal Air Force at the time of its creation.

Harry Patch, aged 111, is now the last surviving British WW1 veteran.

Frome's Fallen Heroes

A site about the men of Frome, a small market town in Somerset, who died during the Great War and World War Two.

Over 450 men from Frome and the surrounding villages in Somerset lost their lives during the 1914-1918 War and afterwards. The following pages give you an insight of the person behind the name as far as The Great War is concerned.
